Hardrock Legacy Acres, HLA, is a family owned and operated horse farm. We each have our own interests, but we all work together to make it run each and every day.
David and Becky Lustig are the owners of HLA. Both have always loved and been around horses their entire lives. David's interest lies in the Standardbred race horses. He has always bred, raised, and raced Standardbreds and continues to do so today with some very nice broodmares and an upcoming stallion prospect. His favorite part is looking forward to the babies each year!
Becky very much enjoys the Standardbreds but has also had to had a riding horse of some time. She started with Western Pleasure and Cutting Quarters Horses which she greatly enjoyed. However, her daughter, Megan, opened her eyes to the Arabians which they both fell in love with. Becky and Megan happened upon Arabians when they were first introduced to one that their Standardbred trainer had rescued. Megan could not live without her. "Misty" became Megan's riding horse when Megan was 13 and Misty was 16. Misty was quite the mare and is the reason HLA is what it has become today! Because of Misty's heart and unique personality, Becky and Megan searched to find other Arabians to call their own.
Adam Wendling (Becky's son) enjoys the horses and has had show ring success himself. He also is involved with helping take care of the horses along with family friends, the Buntons. Pam and Willy as well as their 3 children Dylan, Ashleigh, and Dillon are all major contributors along with Adam and David at making sure the daily management, chores, and training is performed day in and day out.
All of us work together so that each and every one of our horses can excel to their very best, whether it is just a trail rider or a show champion.
HLA has grown from just a few Standardbred broodmares and a couple riding horses to 20+ horses that can compete competitively within their various disciplines whether that is just riding calmly down a trial, showing off beautifully center ring, or working and racing hard to be the fastest in a ring or on the track. No matter what the area of interest, we are in hopes of producing desirable horses that people can purchase and enjoy.
It's all in a name . . .
The name Hardrock Legacy Acres was not one that took much time to decide upon. It just was the name we knew would represent us well. The late Dr. Walter Kemper (father of Becky) used to use the name Hardrock for any animal he came across. When we decided to give our horse farm a name, nothing else but Hardrock would work for his legacy of always addressing all animals as Hardrock.
